Taunt is used to provoke an enemy into dropping his guard for a short time.
The DC is a Concentration check made by the target against the character’s taunt skill roll. It is considered an hostile action. If the taunt is successful, the opponent suffers an AC penalty equal to the difference between the Taunt roll and the defender’s roll (to a max of a -6 penalty) for 5 rounds. The target will also suffer a 30% chance of spell failure, if they don’t resist the taunt.
- If the taunt roll equals the concentration roll, the taunt is successful. There is no armor class (AC) reduction in this case, but the spell failure aspect does apply.
- A taunt can be attempted only once every six seconds, even though each attempt takes less time than that.
- This skill cannot be used by someone trying to remain unseen (as its use involves being seen). That is, it cannot be used while invisible or in stealth mode and the target still hasn’t spotted you.
- Reducing an opponent’s AC provides similar benefits to increasing the character’s attack bonus, but without counting towards the +20 attack bonus cap.
- Taunt counts as an hostile action, and follows hostile action rules.
- A taunting character is considered flat-flooted.
How it works: #
- When you select a target, your character will run to it before initiating the Taunt.
- Once in range, the Taunt animation, shout, and progress bar will begin.
- Interrupting the Taunt (by performing another action) will cancel it.
- If completed successfully, the system will check and apply the Taunt effects accordingly.
Mechanics & Limits: #
- Cooldown: A player can only attempt to Taunt a target once every 6 seconds.
- No Stacking: A target can only be Taunted by one player at a time, reapplying Taunt won’t stack its effects.
Visual Effects: #
We’ve added new visual indicators to show how effective your Taunt is:
- AC reduced by 2 or less → Purple VFX over the target’s head.
- AC reduced by 4 or less → Dark Yellow VFX over the target’s head.
- AC reduced by 6 or less → Red VFX over the target’s head.
