Factions
Your race decides your faction, and the faction decides where you start, who attacks you on sight, and which graveyard your corpse is sent to. There are 5 factions.
| Faction | Who belongs to it | Where they start |
|---|---|---|
| Surfacers | every surface race, and anything not listed below | Benzor |
| Drow | the drow and the other Underdark races | Underdark - Central |
| Humanoids | goblins, minotaurs, orcs, trolls and their kind | Assaulted Island |
| Duergars | the duergar and the underground dwarf races | Underdark - Gracklstugh |
| Undead | every undead race | Nocturnae City |
The five capitals
Benzor is the Surfacer capital, and the busiest city on the server. The sewers beside the temple hold rats, beetles, goblins and undead for new characters. The other sewer entrances in Benzor lead to different areas, built for a party, with no rats in them.

Underdark - Central is the capital of the Drow and the Underdark races. It has no boats: a portal connects it to Loknar and Chaulssin. The areas to the north, west, south and east hold low-level fights, and the city has a training area.

Assaulted Island is the capital of the Humanoids: goblins, minotaurs, orcs and trolls. The Humanoids are allied with the Drow and hostile to everyone else. The Giant Commander there gives the first quests.

Nocturnae City is the capital of the Undead. The Undead have no allies.

Underdark - Gracklstugh is the capital of the Duergars and the underground dwarves. It is close to the surface. The Duergars have no allies. They attack Drow and Undead on sight, and do not attack Surfacers unprovoked.

Who is hostile to whom
Your faction standing is set on your first login and after every death:
- Drow and Humanoids are one side. They are friendly to each other, and hostile on sight to commoners, Duergars and the Undead.
- Duergars are hostile to Drow and to the Undead. They are wary of surface commoners, not hostile: they do not attack you unless you give them a reason.
- The Undead are hostile to everyone: commoners, Drow, Duergars and anything that hunts undead.
- Surfacers are hostile to Drow and to the Undead, and wary of Duergars.
- Neutral cities, merchants, animals and other people's henchmen are neutral to everybody.
Where you appear
- On your first login, at your faction's starting city.
- After a server reset, on the way out of the Gateway, at your faction's starting area.
- After a resurrection, at your faction's respawn point. A corpse that has to be moved goes to your faction's graveyard.
Bindstones
A bindstone changes where you appear from then on. Most main cities have one:
Brosna City, Black Hills Village, Underdark - Central, Underdark - Loknar, Mak'a'nor, Abiz - Hebdezi Town, Trondor Village, Moonglow Village, Tobaro, City of Blades, Fakualt City, Mulrok Village, Assaulted Island and Chaulssin City.
The neutral ground
Several neutral cities and villages sit between the factions. The best known is Mulrok Village. It holds:
- the arena, with fast resting, and the only place PvP is fought under the arena's own rules;
- the Trade Hall, for crafted goods;
- the Headhunter's Guild, with teleports to quest dungeons;
- the skins shop, with the portal to Castle Glendario, for the token economy.
