Races

A race sets a character's ability adjustments, its favored class, and any racial feats it starts with. ADOH has its own list of races, so this is not the stock one - check the numbers here rather than a general Neverwinter Nights reference.

Every race below is a race in its own right, chosen at character creation. There are no subraces: the character sheet's subrace box is left empty.

Races are gathered into race groups - Vampire, Lich, Mummy and Skeleton are all Undead; Drow and Drider are both Elf. A group is not something you pick, and it changes none of your numbers. It is what a spell, a favoured enemy or an item property is testing when it names a kind of creature rather than a race. Each race page says which group it belongs to.

ECL (effective character level) is added to a character's real level when experience is awarded: a race with ECL 1 levels more slowly than one with ECL 0.

Favored class is per gender on ADOH - a race can favor one class for male characters and another for female. A character who stays single-classed in the favored class earns 5% more experience, 10% for a race that costs tokens. Separately, two ordinary classes more than one level apart, with neither of them the favored class, cost 20% experience, and two such pairs cost 40%; prestige classes are left out of that comparison. A dash means the race has no favored class.

Light sensitive races take a penalty in daylight and above ground. Where it applies, and how much, is on the race's own page.
