Skins
A skin replaces your character's model with a creature's. Not a spell and not a disguise: it is bought once, worn until you take it off, and survives logging out. Six hundred and forty-four appearances are priced in the shop, from humanoids and animals to undead, demons and a gelatinous blob.
A skin is not polymorph. Polymorph replaces your body and its numbers for a while; a skin changes what you look like and how big you are, and nothing else about you.
Buying one
The Skins Shop is on Mulrok Island. Everything there is free in the test area, so a shape can be tried before it is paid for.
Prices are in skin tokens, which come out of loot, dungeons and quests like the other kinds, and can also be bought from the donations shop. The cheapest appearances are 10 tokens and the dearest 5000.
| Its own size | the price on the shop line |
| Any other size | 100x that price, or 2x if the appearance costs more than 50 tokens |
| A different scale | free, whichever you pick |
So a 20-token appearance in a size that is not its own costs 2000, while a 2000-token one costs
- What you pay for is the size, never the scale.
Size and scale are not the same thing
Scale is cosmetic. It makes the model a little larger or smaller between the limits that appearance allows, and changes nothing else at all.
Size category - small, medium or large - is a rule, and the game enforces it:
- A large character may hold a two-handed weapon and a shield at once, but only with 20 Strength before any buff or item. Only the score on your sheet without magic counts.
- A large character may hold a medium weapon in the off hand, at 18 Strength, counted the same way.
- A large character may not pair a double-sided weapon with a second melee weapon. That combination is refused whichever hand you fill first.
- Size decides how much a smite adds, measured against the weapon you are holding: see Paladin.
- Weapon Finesse does nothing for a huge creature holding a quarterstaff, a trident or a dire mace.
Wearing it, and taking it off
Buying does not change you. You are handed a skin item naming the appearance, its size and its scale, and that item is what does the work:
- Use it and you take the appearance. Your hands are emptied first, any mount is dismissed, and the item is destroyed.
- One at a time. A second skin is refused until the first is removed, and no skin can be applied while you are polymorphed or inside the appearance editor.
- Remove it from the Player Menu. Removing hands the item back, with its size and scale intact, so nothing is lost - you can wear it again, store it, or sell it on the trade post.
- A full character re-roll asks you to take the skin off and keep the item before it will proceed.
