Factions

Your race decides your faction, and the faction decides where you start, who attacks you on sight, and which graveyard your corpse is sent to. There are five.

The five capitals

Benzor, for the surfacers, is the busiest place on the server and has everything a new character needs. The sewers beside the temple are the usual first hunting ground - rats, beetles, goblins and undead. The other sewer entrances in Benzor lead somewhere else entirely, meant for a party; if you find no rats, turn back.

Benzor

Underdark - Central, for the drow and the Underdark races. No boats here: a portal connects it to Loknar and Chaulssin. The adjacent areas north, west, south and east are full of starter fights, and there is a training area in the city itself.

Underdark - Central

Assaulted Island, for the humanoids - goblins, minotaurs, orcs, trolls. They are the drow's allies and everyone else's enemy. The Giant Commander there has work before you set out.

Assaulted Island

Nocturnae City, for the undead, who have no allies at all. Starting undead is hard, and it is worth knowing the game first.

Nocturnae City

Underdark - Gracklstugh, for the duergar and the underground dwarves. It sits close to the surface and is easy to leave. They have no allies either, but they will leave a surfacer alone - drow and undead they attack on sight.

Who is hostile to whom

Standing is set for you the first time and after every death. What it comes to:

  • Drow and Humanoids are one side. They are friendly to each other, and hostile on sight to commoners, duergars and the undead.
  • Duergars are hostile to drow and to the undead. They are wary of surface commoners rather than hostile: they will not attack you unless you give them a reason.
  • The undead are hostile to everyone - commoners, drow, duergars and anything that hunts undead. They have no allies.
  • Surfacers are hostile to drow and to the undead, and wary of duergars.
  • Neutral cities, merchants, animals and other people's henchmen are neutral to everybody.

Where you appear

  • On your first login, at your faction's starting city.
  • After a server reset, on the way out of the Gateway, at your faction's starting area.
  • After a resurrection you go to your faction's respawn point, and a corpse that has to be moved goes to your faction's graveyard.

Bindstones

A bindstone changes where you appear from then on. Most main cities have one:

Brosna City, Black Hills Village, Underdark - Central, Underdark - Loknar, Mak'a'nor, Abiz - Hebdezi Town, Trondor Village, Moonglow Village, Tobaro, City of Blades, Fakualt City, Mulrok Village, Assaulted Island and Chaulssin City.

The neutral ground

Several neutral cities and villages sit between the factions. The best known is Mulrok Village, which holds the arena - fast resting, and the only place PvP is fought under the arena's own rules - the Trade Hall for crafted goods, the Headhunter's Guild for teleports to quest dungeons, and the skins shop with the portal to Castle Glendario for the token economy.
