General build advice
Opinion, not rule. First written by Steniel and added to by the Discord community. These are the numbers experienced players aim at; nothing here is enforced by the game, and none of it is checked against the code the way the rest of the wiki is.
Numbers people aim for
| Target | Why | |
|---|---|---|
| Attack bonus | 65 finished | anything that has to hit something needs it |
| Armour class | 75 finished, for a melee build | and layers behind it: concealment, critical immunity, epic dodge |
| Will save | 48 | Bigby's line, blinding auras and the nastier debuffs |
| Fortitude save | 63 | immunity to knockdown and devastating criticals - good rather than required |
| Reflex save | 45 | to stay on your feet through Storm of Vengeance |
Check the combat log, not the character sheet. The sheet is often wrong about your real attack bonus.
Things worth having
- Evasion, if it fits: it takes you through a great many traps.
- Pick Pocket - epic skill focus, cross-class ranks and any other source - is enough to lift a healing potion off a dungeon boss, once each, which shortens some fights.
Things not worth having yet
- Devastating criticals, below 42-44 unbuffed Strength.
- Flurry of blows, rapid shot or blinding speed, below 68 attack bonus.
Try it before you build it
Make a character named TEST and use the test area:
- Beat on the 65 AC dummy with boss damage reduction: 65-70 damage a second is considered acceptable.
- Summon a Moore Guardian in the test arena. Beating it means the build works; beating it without drinking a healing potion means it works well.
