In-game map
The map you open in game, replacing the game's own. It draws the same world as the world map on the website, and adds everything that needs a character standing somewhere: where you are, what you have explored, your party, what is hunting you, and where your quests are.
Open it the way you always opened the map. There is nothing to switch on.
If you would rather have the game's own map back, the player menu has an option for it. The command -oldmap opens the original once without changing anything, and the Atlas can stay open beside it.
The three views
World View shows the whole world, every area as its own map picture. Region shows one region close up. Current Area shows the room you are standing in, and follows you when you walk through a door.
Back returns to wherever you were looking before. It is a history, not a step up the map.
Getting around
Drag to pan. The wheel zooms around the cursor; − and + zoom around the middle. Fit jumps to where your character is standing.
Type in the search box to find a place by name, and click a result to centre on it.
Click any area to select it. The panel then gives its size, whether it is underground, its danger rating and who gives quests there. Show this area opens it.
What the markers mean
- Gold arrow - you, pointing the way you are facing.
- Diamonds - your party: pale for other players, blue for henchmen, familiars and animal companions and summons.
- Gold diamond - a way out: a door or an area transition.
- Purple circle - a portal. Blue circle - a boat dock.
- Red diamond - a hostile your character can actually see or hear. White X - a corpse. Both are off until you tick the hostiles box.
- Green dot - someone who gives quests.
There are no tooltips. Click a marker - a way out, a hostile, a quest target - and its name appears along the bottom of the map. Click it again to clear it.
Quest markers
Only for quests you are actually on:
| Marker | Means |
|---|---|
| Yellow ! | someone to speak to |
| Green tick | a delivery |
| Red x | something to kill |
| Orange square | something to destroy |
| Blue circle | somewhere to search |
The lines between areas
Grey is a transition you can walk, blue a boat, red a portal, and gold a journey someone arranges for you. The Show boxes turn each kind on and off.
Select two areas and the panel works out a route between them.
Fog
Anywhere you have not explored is blacked out, the same as the old minimap. Walking there reveals it, and it stays revealed.
The small map
The move icon at the top opens a small map you can leave on screen while you play. − and + resize it, and Lock pins it in place and hides its title bar so it takes as little room as possible.
It reopens by itself if it was on screen when you logged out.
What the map remembers
The line filters, the POI names box, the hostiles box, and the small map's lock and position are settings of the account, not of one character: change them once and every character on your key opens the map the same way. The small map's position and size are kept per device, so a size you chose on a phone does not follow you to a desktop.
Fog is the exception. What you have explored belongs to the character that walked there.
