Parties

The two level rules

A party has to hold together in level, and there are two separate limits:

  • The average may not fall more than 4.5 levels below the highest member.
  • The gap between the highest and the lowest member may not exceed 8 levels.

Break either one and nobody in the party earns experience at all - not the low members, not the high one. The message names the average, the highest and the lowest member and both differences, so it is clear which of the two limits was crossed.

Effective character level counts here, so a race with a level adjustment weighs more than its class levels suggest - see Character development.

Earning a share

To be paid for a kill you must be in the same area, within 50 metres of it, and alive. Nothing else is required: you do not have to have hit anything.

Racial experience modifiers apply to your share alone, so two characters in the same party can be paid differently for the same kill.

What being in a party changes

  • You cannot attack a party member, whatever your attitudes say.
  • Only a party member can resurrect you - see Resurrection.
  • Dungeon instances are bound to the party that opened them.
