Creatures
The live bestiary - every creature the server has recorded a kill on, with how often and by whom - is in the armory. This page is about how creatures work.
Unique creatures
A creature that spawns from an encounter can come up unique: it glows, it is larger, it is harder to kill, and it is worth more when it dies.
- Its boosts are permanent and cannot be dispelled.
- The boosts scale with its challenge rating.
Every number, what makes one, and what it drops are on unique creatures.
Bosses are their own thing
A boss is graded. Each grade counts as +5 challenge rating on top of the creature's own, and adds extra hit points.
Where they come from
- Encounters placed in the world, which are what unique creatures spawn from.
- Wandering monsters, which can ambush you when a rest finishes. They come only when the party's average level is 5 or higher, never in an area where PvP is off, and are picked from the area's own encounters near the party's average level. After an ambush, the party is safe from the next one for 4 in-game hours (8 minutes).
- Boss mechanics, which summon their own - see Bosses.
- In the open world, the creatures of an area are put away while nobody is there and brought back when somebody arrives, in the state they were left in.
- Bodies fade a few minutes after death.
Taking one with you
Some creatures can be tamed with Animal Empathy. It refuses:
- a plot creature
- a quest giver
- anything with Mind Spells Immunity
- anything inside a dungeon instance
